The use of tiles for hearths — particularly porcelain for its high heat resistance and durability— allows for a vast range of aesthetic expressions, from classic Victorian chequerboard patterns to sleek, modern minimalist designs. Tiled hearths are increasingly popular in restoration projects, where hand-glazed ceramic tiles or mosaic borders are used to revive the period charm of antique cast-iron surrounds. The tiles are laid on a concrete former which provides a solid base for the tiles. There are 'standard' tiled hearths available, or we can have the hearth made up with tiles supplied by yourselves.
